EPA UCMR 5 Program

McCampbell Analytical Inc (MAI) is proud to participate in the EPA UCMR 5 program as an approved analytical laboratory that accepts commercial samples for all 30 UCMR 5 contaminants.

UCMR 5 Testing

The United States Environmental Protection Agency published the Fifth Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR) in December 2021. This UCMR 5 will require monitoring of public water systems (PWSs) nationwide for 30 contaminants including 29 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and lithium using analytical methods and laboratories approved by the EPA for UCMR 5. UCMR 5 will provide new data used to improve the EPA's understanding of the contaminants found in the nation's drinking water systems and at what levels. This data will ensure science-based decision-making and help inform future regulations, infrastructure funding, and remediation needs.

UCMR 5 sampling is scheduled to take place from January 2023 to December 2025. All PWSs serving more than 10,000 people (i.e., large systems) will monitor; all PWSs serving 3,300 to 10,000 people, and 800 randomly selected representative PWSs serving fewer than 3,300 will monitor. PWSs will collect samples for 29 PFAS and lithium. Sample sources include surface water (SW), ground water under the direct influence of surface water (GWUDI), mixed sources (MX) and ground water (GW) systems. As EPA finalizes its sampling design plan for each sample collection year, the Agency will notify the participating small systems.

McCampbell Analytical Inc (MAI) is proud to participate in the EPA UCMR 5 program as an approved analytical laboratory that accepts commercial samples for all 30 UCMR 5 contaminants. MAI has participated in the EPA UCMR program since 2012 including UCMR 3 and UCMR 4 as an approved laboratory accepting commercial samples. MAI has extensive experience in contaminants included in UCRM 5, experience handling the logistics of shipping, scheduling, and budgeting, and experience with UCMR electronic data handling and SDWARS reporting.
